Shuan Hern Lee is a piano student and son of AMEB examiner, Yoon Sen Lee in Western Australia.
Shuan Hern recently won 1st prize in an international piano competition in Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom and also Laureate 5th prize winner at another international piano competition in Norvosibirsk, Russia.
Shuan Hern has been the only Australian to have won both competitions in the history of these piano competitions and also the youngest in this year’s competition.
There were total of 16 competitors in the under 17 year old category from various parts of the world including China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, UK and the USA.
Shuan Hern performed the Bach Prelude and Fugue no. 3 (book 1), Chopin etude Op. 10 no. 4, Debussy Jardins sous la pluie, Tchaikovsky Meditation Op. 72 no. 5 and Balakirev’s Islamey.
The standard was really high and all competitors were performing a huge range of concert repertoire at very high levels.
In the other competition where Shuan Hern was the youngest finalist this year and winning Laureate 5th prize, is the world renowned and most prestigious competition for under 18, the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.
