Dr Daniel Hunt, final year Postgraduate Dentistry student, was awarded the NAIDOC Scholar of the Year at the NAIDOC Awards Ceremony on Friday 20 June.

This was an acknowledgement of Daniel’s achievements, dedication and commitment to Aboriginal health.  Daniel commenced studies at UWA in the Aboriginal Orientation Course in 2001.  Daniel continued studies in the Aboriginal Pre-Medicine Course and a year of Science before transferring to Medicine.  He graduated from Medicine with an Aboriginal Health specialisation in 2011.  Over the next 2 years Daniel completed an internship and was a resident medical officer at Royal Perth Hospital.  It was while a RMO that Daniel decided he wanted to become an oral maxillofacial surgeon, which meant returning to university to study dentistry.   Daniel will complete the 4 year Postgraduate dental course in November and intends to work as a dentist in an organisation such as Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service, before specialising.

Congratulations Daniel, from all staff at the School of Indigenous Studies and Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health.
