Alignment of the University of Western Australia’s academic titles with other Australian universities.
During January 2015 the University of Western Australia has moved to Australian standard academic titles. There is no change to academic level, appointment or conditions. It is a change to nomenclature only.
In 2009, the University took the lead when it introduced a set of academic titles styled on the North American system. While these titles may have provided some benefit to individual staff, these titles have not been adopted by other Australian universities and our unique titles have created inconsistency and some misunderstanding because the titles do not align with other Australian universities.
After considerable deliberation and assessment of all factors, the University has decided to initiate the process of adopting traditional titles consistent with other Australian universities. As our academic staff adopt these titles, the University will have a single, consistent titles system which supports this University’s strategic goals, thereby achieving an overall benefit to the whole University community.
